Ancestral Hall of the Fu Clan

The Ancestral Hall of the Fu Clan is a cultural tourism attraction.

The Ancestral Hall of the Fu Clan is located in Tianhua Village, Langxia Town. It faces south and features a traditional courtyard-style layout. The complex consists of an entrance hall, a main hall, and east and west wing rooms, with a central courtyard situated between the front hall and the main hall.

The front section (entrance hall) has seven bays, with a total width of 19.0 meters and a depth of 7.4 meters. The central bay and the side bays are integrated, with the central bay featuring the main gate, while the side bays serve as smaller rooms. It has a double-sloped gable roof covered with small gray tiles. The beam structure follows the post-and-lintel style, with three pillars used in the central bay, and five pillars in the side bays, all reaching the ground. The front and rear lintels of the central and side bays are adorned with lattice windows. The floor is paved with square stone slabs arranged in a staggered pattern, and the column bases are drum-shaped. The rear section (main hall) has five bays, measuring 19.0 meters in width and 14.5 meters in depth, also with a double-sloped gable roof. Three sides are enclosed with walls, while the southern side is open. The central bay features a raised-beam structure, with a single-step beam in front of the five-rafter beam, a double-step beam, and another single-step beam; behind the five-rafter beam there is a single-step and a double-step beam. The side bays use the post-and-lintel method with eight pillars, while the smaller side bays also use the post-and-lintel method, with each pillar reaching the ground. Brackets (dou-gong) are installed on the column beams. A curved awning connects the outer and inner columns. The floor is paved with stone slabs, and the column bases are drum-shaped. Each of the east and west wing rooms has three bays, measuring 8.2 meters in width and 4 meters in depth. They have a single-eave, double-sloped gable roof. The central bay uses a raised-beam structure, with the front and rear five-rafter beams supported by eave columns; the side bays use the post-and-lintel method with three pillars. The plaque inscribed with “Ancestral Hall of the Fu Clan” is still preserved. This ancestral hall features robust materials, elegant decorations, exquisite carvings, and a distinctive style, representing a unique example of a Qing Dynasty ancestral hall architecture in eastern Zhejiang with strong local characteristics.

On May 18, 2001, the Ancestral Hall of the Fu Clan was designated as a municipal-level cultural heritage protection unit by the People’s Government of Yuyao City.
