The Former Residence of the Zhou Family at Nanshunsheng

The Former Residence of the Zhou Family at Nanshunsheng is a cultural relic protection unit of Ningbo City.

Nanshunsheng is located in Shuige Zhou Village, Langxia Town. It is the ancestral home of the Zhou family. The residence consists of a quadrangle courtyard complex made up of a brick-carved gate tower, the main building, and east and west wing buildings. It faces south with its back to the north. The main building has seven bays, while each of the wing buildings has three bays. The most valuable aspects of this residence are its exquisite brick carvings, wood carvings, and stone carvings, especially the brick arches decorated on the walls on both sides of the gate tower, which are the only example of their kind in our city and are quite distinctive.

This residence has withstood over a hundred years of wind and rain. Both its overall architectural style and individual structural components have remained almost entirely unchanged, making it one of the best-preserved Qing Dynasty residential buildings in our city.

Nanshunsheng was designated as a municipal-level cultural relic protection unit by the People’s Government of Yuyao City on May 18, 2001.
