Zhejiang Eastern Revolutionary Base Memorial Hall
The Zhejiang Eastern Revolutionary Base Memorial Hall is a classic red tourism destination and a base for patriotic education.
The Zhejiang Eastern Revolutionary Base Memorial Hall is located in Hengkantou Village, Liangnong Town, Yuyao City, situated within the former site of the CPC Zhejiang Eastern Regional Committee. The building is a late Qing Dynasty wooden structure, a traditional Chinese residence, with the main section facing west and spanning seven bays in both length and depth. There are two two-story wing rooms on either side, a central courtyard, and the entire complex is enclosed by walls. From 1943 to 1945, the CPC Zhejiang Eastern Regional Committee and the headquarters of the New Fourth Army’s Zhejiang Eastern Guerrilla Column were headquartered here. They established the Zhejiang Eastern Revolutionary Base, led the people of eastern Zhejiang in an indomitable struggle against the enemy, the puppet regime, and diehard factions, making it the center of resistance in eastern Zhejiang. In March 1995, it was designated by the Zhejiang Provincial People's Government as one of the first provincial-level patriotic education bases in Zhejiang. In May 2006, the State Council listed the former site of the Zhejiang Eastern Anti-Japanese Base as a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.
The Zhejiang Eastern Revolutionary Base Memorial Hall was established to commemorate the heroic struggles of the Party, government, military, and civilians in the Zhejiang Eastern Base during the War of Resistance Against Japan and the Liberation War. It officially opened to the public in July 1981.
The main gate faces north, directly opposite the westernmost room of the southern wing building. Under the eaves is a plaque inscribed with “Zhejiang Eastern Revolutionary Base Memorial Hall” in the handwriting of Wang Fang. In the center stands a stone tablet engraved with the inscription “Former Site of the CPC Zhejiang Eastern Regional Committee” by Zhang Aiping, mounted on a Sumeru pedestal. Inside the hall, exhibits cover seven aspects of the Zhejiang Eastern Revolutionary Base during the Anti-Japanese War and the Liberation War, including Party construction, government establishment, armed struggle, and the united front. The displays include 162 historical photographs, 39 charts, and 261 various revolutionary relics, vividly portraying the history of the revolutionary struggle in eastern Zhejiang. In the first half of 1999, the existing exhibits were reorganized, covering a display area of 480 square meters along a 150-meter exhibition route. The display utilizes continuous aluminum-framed glass cases illuminated with lighting, effectively enhancing the solemn atmosphere of the exhibition. Visitors can quickly immerse themselves in the historical ambiance. Today, the Zhejiang Eastern Revolutionary Base Memorial Hall authentically reflects the moving deeds of the people of eastern Zhejiang who fought bravely and continuously under the Party’s leadership. It also effectively serves as a means of patriotic and revolutionary tradition education for the public, especially the youth, achieving significant social impact.
