Majiayan Ancient Village
Majiayan Ancient Village is located in the northwest of Moushan Town, Yuyao City. Both the East and West Streets of Majiayan feature Qing Dynasty architecture, with most of their wooden shopfronts and paved Dayin stone slab roads still well preserved. It is reported that from the 19th century to the mid-1970s, this place served as a distribution hub for rural economic trade in the Ningbo–Shaoxing region, enjoying convenient transportation and abundant supplies; on every market day, hundreds of merchants would gather here, attracting a constant stream of visitors day and night.
At the northern end of Majiayan, near the site of the ancient weir, stands the Guan Di Temple, one of the third batch of cultural heritage protection units in Yuyao City. Spanning the Shuangyi River in front of the temple are two stone bridges that cross the border between Yuyao and Shangyu cities: the Shuangyi Bridge and the Taiping Bridge.
The Shuangyi Bridge was built in the ninth year of the Tongzhi reign during the Qing Dynasty. The bridge is 10.4 meters long and 1.7 meters wide, with ten stone slabs forming three arches, hence it is also known as the "Three-Arch Bridge." The bridge is equipped with stone railings, and the three arch piers include eight smaller piers, with four in the center carved with vivid stone lions. The central railing on the southern side of the bridge is inscribed with the name "Shuangyi Bridge," while the piers on either side bear a couplet: “A single call echoes clear as a mirror; three arches reflect the moon beneath flowing springs.” The northern railing is inscribed with “Rainbow Soaring Above the Clouds,” and the adjacent piers feature another couplet: “The light of three arches meets the Han’s flow; a rainbow of mist ascends beyond the clouds.”
The Taiping Bridge is located about 60 meters north of the Shuangyi Bridge. Built in the second Mao year (approximately 123 years ago), the bridge is 4.2 meters long and 1.8 meters wide, with a central stone railing. The railing is 20 centimeters wide. The southern side of the bridge is inscribed with the characters “Taiping Bridge,” while the northern side is inscribed with “Flowing Endlessly Through Time.”
