Former Site of the Eastern Zhejiang Anti-Japanese Military and Political Cadre School
The school was established in October 1944 and was founded on the basis of the original New Fourth Army Training Brigade. Like the “Resistance University” in Yan’an, it followed the same model—comparable to the relationship between today’s Central Party School and local party schools. It shared the same traditional three-courtyard compound with the Eastern Zhejiang Administrative Office, where the inner courtyard functioned as the open-air classroom for the military and political cadre school. The indoor classroom covered an area of 180 square meters. Despite the extremely harsh and rudimentary wartime conditions, the cadre school maintained a highly standardized admissions charter. It served as a cradle for cultivating military personnel, offering courses in politics, military science, and general education, and trained and supplied a group of high-quality, theoretically competent party, government, and military cadres for the Eastern Zhejiang troops and local areas. The school included military offices, a general affairs department, a kitchen, and classrooms. Particularly precious are several murals still preserved at the site, painted by New Fourth Army soldiers, which vividly express their unwavering determination to fight to the end and liberate Eastern Zhejiang.
