In 1943, the New Zhejiang East Daily was founded, evolving from the Situation Bulletin launched in 1942, and became the official newspaper of the Zhejiang East District Party Committee. The District Party Committee established a five-member Party Newspaper Committee with members Tan Qilong, He Kexi, Zhang Wenbi, Zhang Ruichang, and Jiang Lan. The front page featured important dispatches from Xinhua News Agency and key directives from the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. It reported major news on politics, military affairs, economy, and culture in the Zhejiang East Anti-Japanese Base Area, and frequently published orders from the leading bodies of the base. The second and third pages covered international and domestic news; the fourth page was dedicated to science and culture. Later, a special “New Era” section was added, along with irregular special issues such as “Production” and “Zhejiang East Women.” The printing machines and lead type for the New Zhejiang East Daily were all captured from the enemy. On July 7, 1943, the first issue of the newspaper was published.
