Located in Houtanghe Village, Simen Town. Originally built during the Zhengde era of the Ming Dynasty, it was initiated by Xie Qian, a top imperial scholar from Yuyao during the Ming Dynasty. Except for the gate tower, the existing structures were rebuilt during the Qing Dynasty, covering an area of over 2,200 square meters. The hall faces south and consists of a gate tower, front hall, central hall, rear building, and grain storage barn. It is relatively large in scale, with a complete layout, vivid colored paintings, and stands as an outstanding representative of ancient ancestral hall architecture in the Yaobei region of eastern Zhejiang. On April 26, 2010, the Ancestral Hall of the Xie Clan was designated as part of the fifth batch of municipal-level cultural relic protection units in Yuyao City.

Simen Town: [Geographical Features] Simen Town is located in the northwest of the city, 23 kilometers from the urban center. In ancient times, it was also known as Simen or the Fourth Gate. The southwest part of the region originally featured the Ruchou Lake, which covered an area of 100,000 mu. Four gates were opened on the east dike of Ruchou Lake to facilitate water release for irrigation; with “four waters” making “Si” (泗), hence the name Simen. The town covers an area of 66.3 square kilometers, bordering Xiaocao’e Town and Langxia Subdistrict to the east, Mazhu Town to the south, Linshan Town to the west, and facing Hangzhou Bay to the north, across the water from Haiyan County.
