Former Site of Jishan Academy
The former site of Jishan Academy is a cultural relic protection unit of Yuyao City.
The former site of Jishan Academy is located at No. 14, Natural Village Shierfang, Guanqiao, Erliushi Village, Sanqi Town, Yuyao City. Initially built during the Jiaqing era of the Qing Dynasty, it was a private school established by Chen Yiren, father of Chen Bulei, serving as a place for teaching children in the clan. In 1946, Chen Bulei, deeply concerned about his hometown, sought to revive education. He specifically donated funds and, drawing inspiration from the architectural style of the Whampoa Military Academy in Guangzhou, constructed a new school building next to the old private school and named it “Jishan Academy.” Chen Bulei himself served as the principal.
The old private school faces south and has a width of five bays; the new school building is a brick structure with a Western style, featuring brick arches supporting the eaves, interconnected arch rings, and square column bases.
The academy remains well-preserved and is a relatively typical example of educational architecture in Yuyao, holding certain architectural and historical value. It also represents a milestone in the region’s educational history and holds significant historical meaning.
On September 23, 2014, the Yuyao Municipal People's Government designated it as part of the sixth batch of municipal-level cultural relic protection units.
Sanqi Town: Sanqi Town derives its name from its traditional market. According to the Guangxu-era "Cixi County Annals," “Sanqi Market, located 25 li west of the county, holds markets on the 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 10th of each month, hence the name.” The town covers an area of 68 square kilometers, governs 12 administrative villages and 3 residential committees, with a total population of over 32,000. In 2003, the per capita income was 6,500 yuan. Sanqi Town is situated in the heart of the Ningbo-Shaoxing Plain, enjoying superior geographical conditions. It borders Ningbo to the east, faces the Hemudu Cultural Site across the Cijiang River to the south, and neighbors the Duhuling mountain ridge and Cixi to the north. Transportation is convenient, with Provincial Highway 61 running through the town, and Ningbo Lishe Airport is within... More details about Sanqi Town++
