Main Hall of Yuyao Chenghuang Temple
The main hall of Yuyao Chenghuang Temple is a cultural relic protection unit of Yuyao City.
The main hall of Chenghuang Temple is located on the south side of Yangming East Road in Yuyao's urban area. It was first built during the Song Dynasty, originally situated at the southeastern foot of Longquan Mountain. By the end of the Song Dynasty, it was relocated to the east side of the county government office, and now only the main hall remains. Legend has it that the deities enshrined in Chenghuang Temple were ancient guardians of the city. In the 1980s, some structures of the temple were moved to Longquan Mountain, leaving only the main hall. The hall faces south, covering an area of approximately 430 square meters, with five bays, a double-eaved hip-and-gable roof, and upturned eaves. The central bay features a post-and-lintel beam frame with five columns and eleven rafters. The side and end bays have eight columns resting directly on the ground. The eaves are equipped with corridors, and the eave columns are adorned with bracket sets. With its long history, simple grandeur, and embodiment of the architectural artistry of temples in eastern Zhejiang, the Chenghuang Temple stands as a notable cultural site.
On September 23, 2014, the Yuyao Municipal People's Government designated it as part of the sixth batch of municipal-level cultural relic protection units.
