Former Site of Chen's Baoyuan Pawnshop
The former site of Chen's Baoyuan Pawnshop is a cultural relic protection unit of Yuyao City.
The former site of Chen's Baoyuan Pawnshop is located on the south side of Yangming East Road in Yuyao’s urban area. It was established by the Chen family during the Xianfeng reign of the Qing Dynasty. The site consists of the main building, the west-side building, and the rear enclosed house.
The main building faces south and served as the warehouse and accounting office of the pawnshop. It has three bays, a flush-gable roof with double eaves. Both the front and back feature rolled canopies with delicate carvings. The central bay features a raised-beam structure. In front of the building is a courtyard enclosed by high walls. The west-side building originally served as the storefront of the pawnshop, facing west and set along an east-west axis. It features a flush-gable roof and has five bays and two corridors. The rear enclosed house is a single-story flat-roofed building with a flush-gable roof, featuring five bays, which housed the grain storage, kitchen, and woodshed at that time. Between the main building and the rear enclosed house stands a brick-carved gate tower with fine carvings that are well preserved.
The former site of Chen's Baoyuan Pawnshop is a historical testament to Yuyao’s traditional pawnshops. Its layout remains largely intact and holds significant historical value.
On September 23, 2014, the Yuyao Municipal People's Government designated it as a municipal-level cultural relic protection unit in the sixth batch.
