The Chu Clan Ancestral Hall is located in Shangcun, Xiaoyun Village, Luting Township, Yuyao City. It was first built during the Daoguang era of the Qing Dynasty and renovated during the Guangxu era. Facing south and nestled against the mountain terrain, it consists of a main hall, wing rooms, and a front porch forming a courtyard complex. Shangcun derives its name from being situated in the upper section of Xiaoling Village. The majority of the villagers bear the surname Chu. According to the "Chu Clan Genealogy": "During the reign of Emperor Xiaozong of the Southern Song Dynasty, Chu Bangying, a recording clerk from Zhenjiang, relocated from Jin川 in Cixi to Sìmíng Xiǎolǐng (now Xiaoling) in Yuyao's Four Ming Mountains, becoming the founding ancestor of the Xiaoling Chu clan. Subsequently, descendants settled in areas such as Di塘, Liangnong, Wangshikeng, Shenkeng, and Shangzhuang." Further records in the genealogy indicate that the Xiaoling Chu clan are descendants of Chu Suiliang, a prominent statesman and master calligrapher who served as prime minister in the fourth year of the Yonghui era during the Tang Dynasty, who migrated to Xiaoling.
