All buildings of the residence are distributed along the central axis, featuring a front hall, main building, and rear building along this line, with front and rear courtyards separating them. Wing buildings are built on both sides, connecting the front hall, main building, and rear building. The upper floors are interconnected by winding corridors. The environment is serene, and the overall layout is well-organized. The main building has a width of seven bays and a depth of four bays, with wing buildings on either side, each consisting of three bays. The architectural structure is finely crafted, and the corner corridors feature exquisite carvings.

The Zhang residence adopts the traditional Chinese pattern of enclosed courtyard layouts in its overall arrangement, yet incorporates architectural elements characteristic of the Zhe School. In particular, the corridor-style structure formed by the main building and wing buildings is quite distinctive in the Yuyao area.

The former residence of Zhang Qizhao is well-preserved, rich in historical background, and features a unique architectural style.
