Guadie Pavilion
Guadie Pavilion is a cultural relic protection unit of Yuyao City.
Guadie Pavilion is situated on the small hilltop of Tanjialing Tea Farm in Tanjialing Village, Lanjiang Subdistrict, Yuyao City. It spans from north to south. Originally, Guadie Pavilion was the Nanming Gate—one of the four land gates of Yuyao’s southern city wall (renamed Nanming Gate during the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty). During the War of Resistance against Japan, the city walls of both the northern and southern cities were completely demolished. Local residents such as Shao Zhichuan specially relocated the gate structure of Nanming Gate to Tanjialing in the southern part of the city, and inscribed its name as “Guadie Pavilion.” This location was once a vital passageway leading to Xiaodong.
Guadie Pavilion is a round-arched stone city gate, measuring 6.59 meters in width and 3.66 meters in overall height. The northern and southern walls of the gate are constructed with neatly arranged stone slabs laid in alternating courses. The arch is built with precisely cut stones, spanning 3.8 meters in width and 3.6 meters in height. The inner eastern wall of the gate is inscribed with the characters “Loyalty, Forbearance, Integrity, and Wisdom,” while the sides are inscribed with “Filial Piety, Righteousness, Benevolence, and Harmony.” The top of the gate has been covered with soil and overgrown with wild grass, and a small path has been made to allow pedestrians to pass through.
Although Guadie Pavilion is a relocated structure and not particularly large in scale nor finely carved, it is the only remaining city gate building in Yuyao today and holds significant historical research value.
On September 23, 2014, the Yuyao Municipal People's Government announced it as a cultural relic protection unit in the sixth batch of municipal-level heritage sites.
