Octagonal Western-Style Building

The Octagonal Western-Style Building is a cultural relic protection unit of Yuyao City.

The Octagonal Western-Style Building is located at the eastern foot of Longquan Mountain in Yangming Subdistrict, Yuyao City. It is said to have been built by a wealthy Luo family from Shuangyan Township (now Yanwo) in Yuyao during that time. During the Anti-Japanese War, it was occupied by the Japanese army in Yuyao.

The building faces east and is situated to the west, featuring a brick-concrete structure with three bays and an octagonal floor plan—hence its name. The walls are thick, the interior is divided by solid walls, and the roof is covered with glazed tiles.

The building has a simple exterior, elegant decorations, smooth angular lines, and emphasizes geometric forms, giving it a distinctly Japanese style. It is one of the few Western-style buildings from the Republican era in the urban area.

On September 23, 2014, the Yuyao Municipal People's Government announced it as part of the sixth batch of municipal-level cultural relic protection units.

It governs 20 villages (communities), 8 residential communities, and 1 neighborhood committee, and has 21 primary and secondary schools.
