Lingxing Bridge

Lingxing Bridge is a cultural relic protection unit of Yuyao City.

Lingxing Bridge is located southeast of the Youth Palace at the northern foot of Longquan Mountain in Yangming Subdistrict, Yuyao City. Commonly known as Mingxing Bridge, it was first built in the first year of the Yuanyou era during the Song Dynasty (1078) and renovated in the 35th year of the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty (1770). Its original site was at the eastern end of Xuenong (Study Lane), near the Confucian Temple. It was relocated to its current position in the 1980s.

The bridge spans east–west across dry land and is a single-arch stone bridge, with a total length of 16 meters, a deck width of 3.7 meters, and a height of 2.1 meters. Each side has ten stone steps. Both sides of the bridge are equipped with railings and balusters, the latter being chamfered, with the end railings carved in the shape of drum stands. The central platform of the bridge deck features a square stone slab with double interlocking rings, engraved with lotus patterns. The arch is constructed using the edge-set horizontal coursing method. The abutments are built with horizontally laid stone slabs in staggered joints. The central part of the north and south railings bears the bridge’s nameplate: the northern side is fan-shaped, inscribed with “Lingxing Bridge,” the west side engraved with “Donated and Restored by Local Residents,” and the east side with “The Sixth Year of the Republic of China, Ding Si.” The southern side features a bas-relief horizontal plaque, inscribed in intaglio with “¨Water Source Flows.”

Lingxing Bridge is graceful and exquisite in form, with smooth and elegant lines, making it a typical ancient stone arch bridge in the Jiangnan water town region.

On September 23, 2014, the Yuyao Municipal People's Government announced it as part of the sixth batch of municipal-level cultural relic protection units.
