Wusheng Bridge
Wusheng Bridge is a cultural relic protection unit of Yuyao City.
Wushengmen Bridge is located on the south side of No. 118, Wushengmen, Shengshan Community, Yangming Subdistrict, Yuyao City, Zhejiang Province. According to historical records, Wusheng Bridge was first built during the Long’an period of the Eastern Jin Dynasty to commemorate the victory of government forces over the rebel army of Sun En. Around the early years of the Republic of China, the bridge collapsed. In the 22nd year of the Republic of China (1933), villagers from Lijiacun north of the bridge raised funds to rebuild it and added Wusheng Temple on the south side of the bridge, along with a large, intricately carved stone memorial archway.
Wusheng Bridge is a steeply arched, single-hole stone arch bridge, stretching north-south across the Houqing River, a tributary of the Yao River. It has a total length of 23 meters. The outer sides of the east-west railings at the top of the bridge are each inscribed with the three characters “Wusheng Bridge,” and both east and west bridge walls feature carved couplets.
Wushengmen Bridge is elegantly designed and imposing in appearance. As a strategic fortification at the northern edge of the ancient city of Yuyao, it holds significant cultural and architectural value.
On September 23, 2014, the Yuyao Municipal People’s Government designated it as a cultural relic protection unit under the sixth municipal batch.
