Yu Yao Dafangyue Mansion

Yu Yao Dafangyue Mansion is a cultural heritage site protected at the municipal level in Yuyao City.

Dafangyue Mansion is located at No. 41-45 Wushengmen Road, Yangming Community, Yangming Subdistrict, Yuyao City. According to local lore, this residence was once where Wang Yangming studied, and his father, Wang Hua, also lived here. Judging from its architectural structure, the mansion dates back to the Ming Dynasty.

Dafangyue Mansion faces south and consists of a main building and two side wings, forming an inverted "concave" shape in plan. The main building has three bays and a flush gable roof. It measures 8.72 meters in total width and 8.09 meters in depth. The central and side bays feature a mixed post-and-lintel and raised-beam construction, with five columns and eight purlins. The front has double eaves while the rear has single eaves. Each of the east and west side wings has four bays, with one bay exposed externally. The side wings are 9.84 meters wide and 4.60 meters deep, featuring a mixed post-and-lintel and raised-beam structure with three columns and five purlins. The entire structure uses modest materials and features simple decorations. The beams are round in cross-section, the column capitals resemble pillow blocks, with eagle-beak-like lower ends, and the central columns are fitted with cruciform brackets. The column bases are shaped like inverted felt hats.

With its long history and association with Wang Yangming’s studies, Dafangyue Mansion holds significant historical value.

On September 23, 2014, the Yuyao Municipal People's Government designated it as part of the sixth batch of municipal-level cultural heritage sites.
