Guimen Mountain

Guimen Mountain is located 35 kilometers southwest of Shengzhou City. Originally called Lumen Mountain, it was renamed Guimen (Noble Gate) after Zhu Xi inscribed the two characters “贵门” (Guimen) here. The Guimen Watchtower complex consists of two parts: the watchtower to the east and the Lumen Academy to the west. The academy was founded by the Southern Song scholar Lü Guishu, and the renowned Neo-Confucianist Zhu Xi once gave lectures here. The north gate bears an inscription of Zhu Xi’s “Guimen” calligraphy, while the watchtower was built by Lü Guishu’s son, Lü Zuzu. The current structures were renovated in the third year of the Jiaqing reign during the Qing Dynasty (1798). Nearby, there is also the Meishu Inscription, which was written by Zhu Xi during his visit to Lü Guishu.
