Shijia’ao in Ganlin Town, Shengzhou, Shaoxing, Zhejiang, is the birthplace of Chinese Yue Opera. Many great Yue Opera artists, including Yuan Xuefen and Fu Chuanxiang, originated from here. Known as the hometown of Yue Opera, Shengzhou, Zhejiang, is the birthplace of this traditional Chinese opera, famed for being the “birthplace of a century-old Yue Opera, along the millennia-old Shanyin Creek on the Tang Poetry Trail, and the site of the ten-thousand-year-old Little Huangshan cultural heritage.” This area is an important node on the Tang Poetry Trail of Eastern Zhejiang. The late calligraphy master Wang Xizhi spent his final years in seclusion here. The region has also produced many notable figures, including Ma Yinchu, a renowned economist, educator, and demographer; Ren Guang, a revolutionary musician; Zheng Wuchang, a landscape painter; Yuan Xuefen, a celebrated Yue Opera performer; and Ma Xiaochun, a national Go champion.
