Sihai Mountain Scenic Area

Sihai Mountain Scenic Area is located within Zhangxi Township. It is an extension of the Kuocang Mountain Range and a spur of the Yandang Mountain Range. The terrain features undulating, continuous ridges, with most peaks ranging between 500 and 1,000 meters above sea level. The highest peak, Pandajian, reaches 1,196.7 meters. The scenic area spans a total of 25.6 square kilometers and is named for its spectacular sights such as sea of clouds, sea of fog, —, and sea of snow. It enjoys a mild and cool climate and boasts abundant flora and fauna.

Currently, the scenic area is home to 1,061 species of vascular plants from 568 genera and 162 families. These include over 100 acres of the rare and endangered Fagus lucida forest, a species unique to Zhejiang; one nationally first-class protected plant—the fragrant fruit tree; four second-class protected plants—Liriodendron chinense, Pseudolarix amabilis, Ormosia henryi, and Magnolia officinalis; and four third-class protected plants—Magnolia cylindrica, Stewartia sinensis, Coptis chinensis var. brevisepala, and Ulmus elongata.

In addition, the area hosts three nationally first-class protected animals—the leopard, clouded leopard, and sika deer; five second-class protected animals—rhesus macaque, pangolin, river deer, owl, and woodpecker; as well as wild boar, wild goat, hare, muntjac, pheasant, bamboo partridge, osprey, hill myna, warbler, hawk, snakes, and stone frogs.

Major attractions include Jiaoyan Sacred Site, Stone Trough, and Immortal’s Bedroom.

Zhangxi Township: A township under the jurisdiction of Yongjia County. In 1949, it was divided into Zhangxi and Shizhen townships, merged and renamed Zhangxi Commune in 1961, and established as Zhangxi Township in 1984. Located in the northern part of the county, it covers an area of 75 square kilometers with a population of 10,000. The Xian (Ju) Qing (Shuibei) Highway passes through the area.
