Ancestral Memorial Hall

The Ancestral Memorial Hall is a cultural relic protection unit of Zhejiang Province.

The Ancestral Memorial Hall is located in Lane 2 Village, Huatan Township, and was first built in the first year of the Hongzhi reign during the Ming Dynasty (1488). This grand and exquisitely crafted hall is a typical example of Ming Dynasty architecture.

The hall faces east and covers an area of 1,200 square meters. It consists of a screen wall, entrance hall, side rooms, a stage, and a main hall, measuring 17.82 meters in width and 37.4 meters in depth. There are three sets of double doors on the eastern side, with the central door featuring a groove in the base that serves as a passageway.

The stage is centrally located, designed as a single-bay pavilion with an octagonal caisson ceiling and five tiers of bracket sets. The beams and columns of the main hall are made from robust materials, and most of the column bases are wooden. The twelve main columns in the central and side bays have flush capitals, commonly referred to as the “Twelve Flats,” a rare feature in other architectural structures. The hall is grand in scale and exquisitely crafted, representing a typical example of Ming Dynasty architecture.
