Wuchih Village

About six kilometers northwest of Yantou Village lies the tranquil and idyllic Wuchih Village, which was once the headquarters of the 13th Army of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army. Today, on a hill about seventy to eighty meters south of the old army headquarters site stands the Monument to the 13th Army of the Red Army. The ten-meter-high monument bears thirteen gleaming golden characters inscribed by General Zhang Aiping: “Monument to the 13th Army of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army,” engraved on the bluestone of the monument. Wuchih Village is located in a strategically important area. It was one of the earliest villages in southern Zhejiang to spread Marxist ideology. At that time, out of the village’s just over 200 households, 113 people joined the 13th Red Army.
