The Hundred-Zhang Waterfall is located within the Nanxi River area in Yongjia County, Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province, China, covering a total area of 8,000 acres. The waterfall stretches nearly 100 li in length and can be divided by geographical location into perilous cliffs, streams, waterfalls, forests, valleys, gullies, rocks, caves, as well as various uniquely shaped peaks and stones. The Hundred-Zhang Waterfall Nature Reserve features the most abundant ecosystem, with nearly 2,000 species of plants, including 7 species under national key protection—1 under Class I protection and 6 under Class II protection, such as the pangolin, otter, merlin, northern goshawk, silver pheasant, and tiger frog.

The Hundred-Zhang Waterfall is a newly developed attraction along the Nanxi River. The waterfall cascades from a 128-meter-high cliff, surrounded on three sides by near-vertical rock faces that slightly cave inward, resembling a vertical cross-section of a large jade vessel. It looks as if thousands of feet of white silk or an inverted Milky Way are hanging down. The shape of the waterfall changes dramatically with the seasons and weather. During the rainy season, when water is abundant, the waterfall resembles a flying jade dragon or galloping horses, and the spray can drench clothes more than 50–60 meters away. In dry seasons, the waterfall thins into strands of silver thread, ethereal and misty. Sitting by the pool in such weather is tranquil and pleasant. The Ming Dynasty poet Wang Shuguo once wrote: “The jade vessel leans on clouds, / A hundred-foot waterfall falls. / Suspected to gather from three fairy isles, / Scattering into the pool of nine dragons. / Sunlight paints rainbows in the spray, / Wind returns rain as silk threads. / When will the rains pour down? / To soak all fields below.” The scenery of the Hundred-Zhang Waterfall is truly a highlight of the Nanxi River.

Centered around the Hundred-Zhang Waterfall, the surrounding scenic area features deep, rugged landscapes, uniquely shaped peaks, steep cliffs, and diverse forest forms. It combines “majesty, wonder, danger, beauty, and serenity,” integrating “peaks, waterfalls, streams, and forests” in one place. With every step, the view changes, offering spectacular sights. Wandering here feels like opening a profound textbook of geology, like stepping into an exhibition hall of ecological environments full of dynamic displays, or even like walking into a magnificent landscape painting from the Song and Yuan dynasties, full of endless artistic conception.

Outdoor activities at the Hundred-Zhang Waterfall are mainly divided into two areas: The first is the professional outdoor sports zone, currently the most professional outdoor sports base in the Wenzhou area. It mainly consists of two 16-meter-high towers and offers activities such as rock climbing, rappelling, wire crossing, zip-lining, skywalking, net wall crossing, log floating bridges, aerial swings, and snowboard wire crossings. The second is the outdoor experience zone, featuring activities like plum blossom piles, single-plank bridges, wobbly logs, cloud-climbing platforms, rope nets, slides, swings, and tightrope walking. Visitors can participate directly, making it especially suitable for parent-child activities to enhance family bonds.

The flying acrobatics performance over the Hundred-Zhang Waterfall is one of the preserved highlights of the scenic area. Due to its height and span, it is hailed as the “No. 1 Flying Feat in China.” Meanwhile, the Hundred-Zhang Waterfall Scenic Area also serves as a powered paragliding training base for the Wenzhou Aeronautical Sports Association.
