Martyrs' Memorial Hall of Shankeng Village

The Martyrs' Memorial Hall of Shankeng Village is a classic site for red tourism.

Shankeng Village, Yantan Town, Yongjia County, situated in the old revolutionary base area in the northern part of Yongjia County, has a proud revolutionary heritage. In 1930, when the 13th Army of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army was first founded, a group of young locals including Dai Baochuan, Dai Xianhan, Dai Shisong, and Dai Jiayun immediately took part in the revolutionary struggle. In 1938, a number of youths from the village, including Dai Shouchun and Dai Chengbo, resolutely joined the 4th Detachment of the New Fourth Army in southern Anhui. In 1939, Xie Yongqing came to the village to develop party members and establish a Party branch, appointing Xie Yonlu as the Party branch secretary.

In 1942, Xu Shoukao, the head of the Propaganda Department of the Oujiang North County Committee of the Communist Party of China, stayed here to carry out revolutionary activities. The following year, Hu Jing? (Note: character unclear), the secretary of the Oujiang North County Committee of the CPC, also secretly moved here to lead revolutionary efforts. Fu Zhenjun, a leader of the Party in Lishui region, and Li Wenhui, the secretary of the Communist Party Committee of Jinyun County, also visited here to meet with Hu Jing? and discuss anti-Japanese and anti-puppet struggles in the border area of Yong (Jia), Qing (tian), Li (shui), Xian (Xianju), and Jinyun (yun). On the night of March 2, 1945, the die-hard faction of the Kuomintang sent troops to attack Yusuo. The armed militiamen of Yusuo rose up in self-defense, and Shankeng Village also organized armed militias to rush to Yusuo to take part in the armed struggle. During the Liberation War period, Shankeng Village was a frequent site of activity for the party organizations and guerrilla forces of the Kuocang region. Over the long years of revolutionary struggle, more than ten people from Shankeng Village sacrificed their lives, eight of whom were officially recognized as revolutionary martyrs.

The Martyrs' Memorial Hall of Shankeng Village is located in Shankeng Village, Yantan Town, Yongjia County. To commemorate the illustrious deeds of the revolutionary forebears and to inherit and promote the fine traditions of the revolution, in 2009, the two committees of Shankeng Village raised funds to build the Shankeng Martyrs' Monument; in 2010, they constructed the Shankeng Martyrs' Memorial Hall.
