Biaoshan Village is located in the mountainous region of central-northwestern Yongjia County, at an altitude of over 500 meters, more than 10 kilometers away from the headquarters of the 13th Red Army in Wushuniu Village. The village is surrounded by mountains on all sides, making it easy to defend but hard to attack. It has access to Xianju in the north and offers ample room for maneuvering. Additionally, the village has many wealthy households that could support the army’s supplies. Therefore, after the establishment of the 13th Red Army, this village was designated as its rear base, and the Red Army headquarters often stationed here.

Before military operations, Red Army units frequently set out from Biaoshan Village and later returned there for rest and recuperation. On March 19, 1930, the Zhejiang South Red Army Guerrilla Command attacked Chuzhou City (now Lishui), and after the battle, returned to areas such as Biaoshan for rest. On May 15, Hu Gongmian and Lei Gaosheng led a Red Army force of over 900 men from Biaoshan, passing through Qingtian and Rui’an to attack Pingyang County, and then returned to this area for rest. In August, the Central Military Commission of the Communist Party of China sent five returnees from the Soviet Union to Biaoshan to serve as staff officers and instructors for the 13th Red Army headquarters. The army headquarters decided to establish a direct-training instruction unit and planned to select 100 backbone Red Army soldiers from various units to undergo training in Biaoshan. On September 20, Hu Gongmian led a Red Army force of over 700 men from Biaoshan on an eastern expedition to areas such as Wuyan in Huangyan.

The revolutionary guerrilla base centered around Wushuniu and Biaoshan continued to grow and expand after a series of battles. The people of Biaoshan and nearby villages also actively supported the Red Army's guerrilla warfare, making significant contributions to the development of the 13th Red Army.

The Former Site of the Rear Base of the 13th Red Army in Biaoshan Village is located in Biaoshan Township, Biaoshan Village, in the mountainous region of central-northwestern Yongjia County. It boasts a rich cultural heritage, simple and honest folk customs, and beautiful scenery. The area is known for its unique rock formations, numerous waterfalls, ancient villages, and lush vegetation, characterized by "deep streams, beautiful ancient villages, spectacular rocky peaks, distinct seasons, and abundant greenery."
