Former Site of the Longxi Meeting
The Former Site of the Longxi Meeting is a classic red tourism destination.
In the summer and autumn of 1930, the 13th Army of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army entered its most active period. Its operations spanned over 20 counties and cities in southern Zhejiang, including Wenzhou, Taizhou, Lishui, and Jinhua, engaging in more than a hundred battles of various scales, which dealt a heavy blow to the local Kuomintang government and feudal gentry forces. In September of the same year, the Kuomintang army launched a fierce counterattack, deploying four regiments—the Third, Fourth, Fifth, and Seventh Battalions of the Zhejiang Security Forces—along with the defense corps of Yongjia, Huangyan, Xianju, and Jinyun counties. They encircled the First Regiment (Division) of the 13th Red Army from all directions, creating an extremely critical situation. By the end of that month, facing this rapidly deteriorating crisis, Hu Gongmian, commander of the 13th Red Army, presided over an emergency military cadres meeting in a cave in Longxi, Wushun, Wuyi. Nineteen people attended the meeting, including Lei Gaosheng, Liu Feixiong, Hu Xiehe, Hu Yanzhen, Dai Yuanpu, Jin Zeyi, and Li Lijing. The meeting formulated a contingency strategy of breaking up the main force into smaller units, dispersing operations, preserving strength, and waiting for an opportunity to rise again. Specific measures included evacuation, retreating to the mountains, hiding, and going underground. Based on the circumstances at the time, it was decided that Hu Gongmian, Liu Feixiong, and Yang Bo—returnees from the Soviet Union—would go to Shanghai to report to and seek instructions from the Central Military Commission of the Chinese Communist Party, awaiting further arrangements, while the Red Army forces would be placed under the command of Lei Gaosheng. Lei Gaosheng, Dai Yuanpu, and Jin Yonghong led their troops to continue guerrilla warfare along the borders of Yongjia, Huangyan, and Xianju. Hu Yanzhen, Pan Shanqin, and others went underground near Wushun and Hukeng, maintaining covert activities. Hu Xiehe, Xie Wenhou, and others lay low, waiting for the right moment, while the rest of the Red Army personnel dispersed and returned to their original locations to hide. From then on, the large-scale battles of the 13th Red Army to attack central towns largely ended, shifting to mountainous areas to continue the struggle.
The Former Site of the Longxi Meeting is located in a cave within the Longxi Canyon Scenic Area of Wushun Township, Yongjia County. The cave can accommodate over 200 people, lies about 5 kilometers from the former site of the headquarters of the 13th Red Army, and is surrounded by lush forests, beautiful scenery, and a tranquil environment.
