Yongjia County Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery

Yongjia County Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery is a classic red tourism destination.

Yongjia County is a veteran revolutionary base area where many martyrs emerged. In 1955, the Yongjia County People's Government built the Yongjia County Revolutionary Martyrs' Tomb on Longtou Mountain in Shatou Town, Yongjia County. After several renovations, it has become the current martyrs' cemetery. The cemetery backs onto the peaks of Longtou Mountain and faces the magnificent dam of the Nanxi River water diversion project. It is lower in the front and higher in the back, measuring 55.5 meters in length and 40 meters in width, covering an area of 2,220 square meters. The location enjoys convenient transportation and beautiful scenery. The Yongxian Highway (Provincial Highway 41) and the clear Nanxi River meander through the area. On the roadside wall of the passage is written: “To die for the people’s benefit is heavier than Mount Tai.” The path to the tombs is lined with evergreen cypress trees, and above the main gate of the cemetery is engraved the three characters “Martyrs’ Tomb.”

Upon entering the main gate of the martyrs' cemetery, there is a straight path flanked by lawns and flower beds, with a memorial pavilion on each side. Further up are the burial sections, arranged in upper and lower rows, with stone inscriptions at each grave marking the names and hometowns of the martyrs. At the center above the burial section stands a tall memorial monument inscribed with the ten characters: “The People’s Revolutionary Martyrs Shall Live Forever.” At the highest point are the exhibition hall and the mourning hall, displaying the portraits and historical materials of 47 revolutionary martyrs. Among the more notable martyrs are: Xie Yongqing, who joined the 13th Red Army in 1930, served as the Secretary of the West-Nanxi Central District Committee of the Communist Party of China, and sacrificed for the revolution along with his two sons; Xu Shunxing, who joined the Party in 1938 and served as the Organization Minister of the Ou Bei County Committee of the Communist Party of China; and Guan Rong, who joined the Party in 1938 and served as a member of the Ou Bei County Committee of the Communist Party of China and as a special commissioner for Bilian District. The area inside and outside the cemetery walls is filled with flower beds, lawns, lush flowers and trees, and solemn cypresses and pines, offering beautiful scenery and pleasant views that attract visitors year-round to pay their respects.

Yongjia County Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery is a Yongjia County cultural relics protection unit and a Wenzhou Municipal patriotic education base.
