Former Site of the Guerrilla Sheds on Zhengjiang Mountain

Zhengjiang Mountain is located in the northeast of Yongjia County, bordering Yueqing. During the Anti-Japanese War and the Liberation War, it was the central area of Kuocang guerrilla activities, where the CPC Kuocang County Committee and the headquarters of the Kuocang Detachment were often stationed. Deep within the region lies a mysterious mountain hollow called Wanbiping, with winding paths and few visitors. To its northeast is the peak of Zhengjiang Mountain. It connects to Hushang ?? Village in Yusimiao Township, Yueqing in the east, Shuiyan Village in Langxia Township, Yongjia in the southwest, and villages such as Kezhu and Zhangshuniao in the west. With solid popular support and a strategically advantageous position, it allows for both proactive offensives and easy concealment, offering ample room for maneuver. During the anti-“pacification” campaign in 1947, leaders of the Kuocang guerrilla forces mobilized soldiers to construct numerous sheds on-site using locally sourced materials in Wanbiping and surrounding areas of Zhengjiang Mountain. These sheds served as command posts, meeting rooms, dormitories, kitchens, and radio rooms for the County Committee and military headquarters. In addition, the sheds functioned as logistical bases for the troops — for instance, the garment factory in the Shangqiba and Xiaqiba guerrilla sheds, the field hospital in the Guzhuang Wawa Cave and Dianlingxi downstream guerrilla sheds, and the repair workshop in the Caikeng and Huangkeng guerrilla sheds.

These sheds were simply built, and later generations referred to them as the Zhengjiang Mountain Guerrilla Sheds. They are a unique product of the revolutionary war era, holding both historical commemorative significance and practical educational value.

The former site of the Zhengjiang Mountain Guerrilla Sheds is located within the Longwantan Scenic Area, a national forest park in Hesheng Township, Yongjia County, featuring lush vegetation and a beautiful environment.
