Luofu Turtle Mountain Pagoda

Luofu Turtle Mountain Pagoda is a cultural relic protection unit of Yongjia County.

Luofu Turtle Mountain Pagoda is located on Turtle Mountain in Luofu Village, Ou Bei Subdistrict. It dates back to the Ming Dynasty and is classified as a historical monument.

It is situated at the summit of Turtle and Snake Mountains at the southern end of Luodong Village, Ou Bei Town, Yongjia County. Originally built in the fifth year of Yuankang during the Western Jin Dynasty (295), it was rebuilt in the seventh year of Yuanyou during the Song Dynasty (1084), and the current pagoda was constructed during the Jiajing era of the Ming Dynasty. The twin pagodas share a similar form and structure and are largely well-preserved. They have a hexagonal floor plan, are built with brick and wood, and feature a pavilion-style design. The base is constructed from block stones, topped with flagstones to form a flat terrace. The pagoda has seven stories, each narrowing slightly as it rises, with arched doorways on each level, and occasional niches housing Buddha statues. During the Daoguang era of the Qing Dynasty (1821–1850), Yongjia poet Chen Yuchun wrote in his poem “At the Foot of Luofu Mountain”: “Layered peaks heap emerald hues north of the Shen River, thousands of streams converge here with purpose. I arrived at the mountain at sunrise, where crimson clouds like fish tails dyed the sky. Seven-tiered pagodas stand before me, while Turtle and Snake Mountains flank the sides. Morning tides and evening currents by the eastern sea gate roar with the force of thunder and rain.” This provides a vivid depiction of the surrounding landscape. Together with the Twin Pagodas in the middle of the river, they stand in distant opposition, adding splendor to the Ou River.

In 1983, Luofu Turtle Mountain Pagoda was listed as a county-level cultural relic protection unit of Yongjia County.
