Yushi Ancestral Hall

Yushi Ancestral Hall is a cultural relic protection unit of Yongjia County.

Yushi Ancestral Hall is located in Taicun Village at the north gate of Fenglin Town, Yongjia County, and was built in memory of Xu Dingchao (1845–1918), an imperial censor of the Metropolitan Inspection Circuit and the military and political governor of Wenzhou. The hall faces south and is fronted by a stream. The main hall is a five-bay wooden building with a hip-and-gable roof, enclosed on three sides by high brick walls. The gate tower is constructed from brick and stone, with a concrete {surface, commonly known as the “Main Gate Tower.” It features a couplet inscribed by Cai Yuanpei: “The ancestral hall’s pavilion towers a hundred zhang high; the memorial shrine stands grand through the ages.” To the west of Yushi Ancestral Hall lies the “Nianzu Bridge,” built by Xu Dingchao. On the west side of the central arch of the bridge is inscribed: “Nianzu Bridge, built by Xu Dingchao, imperial censor of the Metropolitan Inspection Circuit, native of this locality”; while the east side bears: “Written in the eleventh month of the third year of the Republic of China (1914), by Xu Xiangyan, native of this locality.” Not far from Nianzu Bridge, on the west side of the old street (Shengzhi Gate Street), stands the former residence of the Xu family. It is a five-bay wooden building flanked by three-bay wing rooms on either side. Outside the gate tower, on the eastern side of the flagpole stone is inscribed: “Xu Dingchao, top scholar of the 1883 imperial examination, erected this”; on the western side: “Xu Dingchao, successful candidate in the 1876 provincial examination, erected this.” This structure remains largely intact.

In 1994, Yushi Ancestral Hall was listed as a county-level cultural relic protection unit of Yongjia County.

Datamen Village: Datamen Village is one of the local administrative villages in Fenglin Town, situated in the town center. To the west, it is close to the national AAA-level scenic area—the Nanxi River Scenic Area—and less than 1 kilometer from the Zhuyong Expressway exit. It enjoys beautiful scenery and convenient transportation. Currently, Fengyi Village (Datamen Village) has a population of 236 households and 802 people, with an average income of 5,961 yuan. The village has a total of 203 mu of arable land, mainly engaged in greenhouse vegetable cultivation and navel orange farming.
