Flower Wall

The Flower Wall is a cultural relic protection unit of Yongjia County.

The Flower Wall is located in Peng’er Village, Hesheng Town, and forms the latticed partition wall on the left side of the first courtyard of an old residence belonging to the Xie family (the family of Xie Size, author of *Yin Yin Qiu Zi*). Originally built during the Southern Song Dynasty and reconstructed in the mid-Qing Dynasty, the residence features an eight-character-shaped entrance gate inscribed with the name “Jin Yun Shan She” (Cottage Near the Cloudy Hills). The couplet reads: “Loyalty and filial piety sustain the family through time; poetry and books guide one’s conduct in life,” signed by “Zhu Xi.” The Flower Wall is 8.8 meters long and 2.65 meters high. It is divided into three sets of openwork lattice windows in the form of diamond flowers, inlaid with brick carvings depicting figures, flowers, and vases. The designs are vivid and lifelike, with exquisitely skilled and refined carvings. The patterns draw from traditional painting styles while also incorporating innovative elements.

In 1984, the Flower Wall was listed as a county-level cultural relic protection unit of Yongjia County.

Peng’er Village: Introduction to Peng’er Village

Peng’er Village is located in the southeastern part of Donggao Township, about 2 kilometers from the town government. It is a small village blessed with beautiful mountains and clear waters, home to a population of 1,196 people and with per capita arable land of just 0.19 mu. Despite limited farmland, the village boasts vast mountainous areas, with red persimmons as a featured agricultural product. The local economy remains relatively underdeveloped, lacking stable sources of income. In recent years, however, the village has seen rapid overall development, with improvements in cultural awareness, ideology, and living standards among residents. The ecological cemetery in Peng’er Village has received over 2 million yuan in total investment, and the Yangtianhe Fruit Base is now operational.
