Metan Mansion is a cultural relic protection unit of Yongjia County.

Metan Mansion is located in Metan Village, Hesheng Town, dating back to the Qing Dynasty, and is categorized as an ancient architectural structure.

The historic residence known as "Metan Mansion" was originally the home of Gu Yihuai. The existing Mingde Hall new building was constructed by Gu Ningkui, the grandson of Gu Yihuai, in the second year of the Xuantong era during the late Qing and early Republican period. It has now stood for over a hundred years. After enduring years of vicissitudes, traces of its once resplendent appearance can still faintly be discerned on the bricks and tiles both inside and outside the residence.

The mansion’s architecture is exquisitely crafted and meticulously designed. Its eight-character gate tower is particularly refined, with elaborate brick carvings and window patterns on the gatehouse featuring unique designs and delicate brushwork. On the gate platform, there is an inscription carved in bluestone: “New Residence on Meipo, Time-Honored Fragrant Neighbors,” with the horizontal plaque reading “Gathering Pure Fragrance.” These elements reflect the former prominence of the residence’s owners, their affluent circumstances, and their upright character.

Upon entering the gate tower, you will find a three-courtyard complex facing south and north. The main house has nine rooms, with five rooms on each of the east and west wing rooms, all of which are two-story buildings. Particularly noteworthy are the circular column bases under each corridor pillar, which feature highly refined carvings.

In 2003, Metan Mansion was listed as a county-level cultural relic protection unit of Yongjia County.

Hesheng Town: During the Qing Dynasty, Hesheng Township belonged to Xiangju Township’s Fifty-Du and was called Hesheng. During the Republican era, it was renamed Hesheng Township. After the liberation in 1949, it was established as Luochuan Township, which was later briefly divided into Luochuan and Yanshang townships. In 1958, it became the Luochuan and Yanshang management areas. In 1961, the two management areas were merged and renamed Hesheng Commune. In 1984, it was called Hesheng Township.

Hesheng Township is located in the northeastern mountainous region of Yongjia County. It borders Yanhu Township of Yueqing City to the east, Donggao Township to the west, Fenglin Town to the south, and Lingtou and Xiyuan townships to the north.
