It was known as Yantan Township in 1949, restructured as a commune in 1961, reinstated as a township in 1984, and upgraded to a town in 1986. Located in the northern part of the county, on both sides of the upper reaches of the Nanxi River, it covers an area of 46 square kilometers with a population of 11,000. The town administers the Yantan Street Neighborhood Committee and 12 village committees including Yantan, Tan Yi, Xixi, Shizi, Sipo, Caiwu, Liangzi, Yiniu, Guling, Renzhu, Longtan and Shuangxi.
