Shuyu North Shangshu Ancestral Hall

The Shuyu North Shangshu Ancestral Hall is a cultural heritage site protected by Yongjia County.

The Shangshu Ancestral Hall is located in Yubei Village, Yantan Town, Yongjia County. It was built by Wang Yingchen and his son Wang Kui. Facing east and situated to the west, it is a wooden “曰”-shaped courtyard-style structure. Originally constructed in the third year of the Chunxi era during the Southern Song Dynasty (1176), it was renovated in the fifty-third year of the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty (1788) and has undergone multiple repairs since, covering an area of 3,200 square meters. It follows an axial layout and consists of the entrance hall, main hall, side rooms, rear hall, left and right corridors. The side rooms and rear hall are connected, with the corridors linking them. The front hall features ten pillars, while the secondary and side rooms each have fourteen, all square-shaped. The beam structure combines raised beams and pierced brackets. The gable walls are made of wooden boards, and the roof is of the hanging gable style. In the center of the main hall hangs a horizontal plaque inscribed with the character “Dunmu” (Harmony), dated to the fiftieth year of Qianlong (1785).

Yubei Village: Yubei Village is located upstream of the Nanxi River, a national scenic area, within Yantan Town, Yongjia County, and is known as a “Famous Historical and Cultural Village of China.” The village covers an area of 2.8 square kilometers, lies over 60 kilometers from the county seat, and is surrounded by mountains on three sides with a stream on one, offering a serene natural environment. Originally called Gu Tian (Wild Rice Field), the village was renamed “Yubei” (North of the Islet) during the Song Dynasty when the Wang family ancestors moved from Hou Tang Wan to the north of a small hill called Gu Yu, which lies south of the village. During the Anti-Japanese War and the Chinese Civil War, Yubei served as the base for the 0 Ou Bei Central County Committee.
