Jingzhou and Lüzhang Taiyin Palace Murals

Jingzhou Taiyin Palace is located at the eastern foot of Jingzhou Village, Daruoyan Town, Yongjia County. Originally built in the 54th year of the Kangxi reign during the Qing Dynasty (1715), it was subsequently renovated during the Qianlong and Guangxu eras. The wooden structure follows a traditional Chinese courtyard layout and covers an area of 531 square meters. The palace houses a total of 20 murals on its side walls and the entrance gate panels, created in the 4th year of the Guangxu reign (1878).

Lüzhang Taiyin Palace is situated in Lüzhang Village, Shangtang Town, Yongjia County. Constructed during the Daoguang reign of the Qing Dynasty (1821–1850), it is a wooden courtyard-style building covering an area of 466 square meters. The site contains 21 murals created during three distinct periods: the 7th year of the Daoguang reign (1827), the 28th year of the Guangxu reign (1902), and the 30th year of the Guangxu reign (1904).

The murals at both palaces are traditional folk oil paintings, featuring themes such as landscapes, flowers and birds, classical literature, and mythological legends. With meticulous composition, fluid brushwork, and vivid depictions, they hold significant value for the study of the formation and development of Wenzhou’s oil painting tradition.
