Xiashan Village — A Millennium-Old Village Paved with Cobblestones

Xiashan Ancient Village is situated beside the ancient Tang-Song post road in the north at the source of the Qiantang River, where Anhui, Zhejiang, and Jiangxi meet. It boasts over 300 well-preserved Huizhou-style ancient houses built during the Ming, Qing, and early Republican eras. The villagers mainly bear the surnames Zheng and Wang. Beyond its deep-rooted folk culture, Xiashan Village has also been home to many scholars and literati.

The white walls and black tiles, along with the brick carvings, exude a timeless charm. Its architectural style combines the best of ancient Huizhou and the Jiangnan Wu-Yue traditions, featuring both the solemn grandeur of Huizhou architecture and the delicate elegance of Jiangnan gardens.
