Situated in Changhong Township of Kaihua County at the source of the Qiantang River, this small village — hailed as the “Potala Palace of the South” — features rice terraces surrounding villagers' homes. The terraces cascade down from the mountaintop, flowing like drifting clouds and water, like chains and silk sashes, forming a majestic sight. Its beauty stems from the distinctive mountain landscape and traditional village architecture, and from the ethereal, brocade-like mists. The terraces, varying in size, are stacked against the mountains, cradled in the hills’ embrace. Sunbeams pierce through the swirling fog and cast light on the classic earthen houses halfway up the slopes, creating a one-of-a-kind scene that feels like stepping into the Potala Palace.

Changhong Township: A township under the jurisdiction of Kaihua County. Established as Hongqiao Township in 1950, it became the Hongqiao Management Area of Changhong Commune in 1958, was upgraded to a commune in 1961, and re-designated as a township in 1983. It is located in the northwest of the county, on the northern bank of the upper reaches of the Chihua Stream, 21 kilometers from the county seat. Covering an area of 138.4 square kilometers, it has a population of 14,000. The Xingkou-Xiawu Highway runs through the township.
