Shuangxikou Site

The Shuangxikou Site is a cultural heritage protection unit of Kaihua County.

The Shuangxikou Site is located on a hillside 500 meters north of Shuangxikou Natural Village, Zhongcun Township, Zhongcun. It dates from the Neolithic Age to the Spring and Autumn Period and is among the first batch of county-level cultural heritage protection units. As a human settlement site, it covers an area of approximately 1,500 square meters. A section of the site remains intact, with a cultural layer about 0.6 meters thick. The site was discovered in May 1978 during land clearance operations on the hillside and has suffered severe damage. Excavated artifacts include pottery shards made of sandy red clay, sandy gray clay, fine gray clay, black-coated clay, and stamped hard pottery. The stamped pottery features patterns such as tile motifs, grid patterns, wavy lines, and mat impressions. Stone tools unearthed at the site consist of single-hole axes, three-hole axes, adzes, arrowheads, and net sinkers. According to investigations by provincial archaeological experts, the site dates back 4,500 years, shedding light on the dawn of civilization in Kaihua.
