Xiashan Bell Tower

The Xiashan Bell Tower is a cultural heritage protection unit of Kaihua County.

The Xiashan Bell Tower is located in Xiashan Second Village, Majin Town. It was built during the Republic of China era and is listed as part of the second batch of county-level cultural heritage protection units. Originally constructed in the Hongzhi era of the Ming Dynasty, it was destroyed in the year of Ding Si in the Xianfeng reign (1857), and underwent several reconstructions thereafter. The current structure was rebuilt during the Republic of China period. Facing north and situated to the south, it is a three-story wooden square building covering an area of 108 square meters. It has a width and depth of three bays each, with both the width and depth measuring 10.4 meters. The roof features double eaves with a hip-and-gable design, and there is a ceiling inside. The beam structure is not clearly documented. A total of 16 pillars are used, and a large bell inscribed with the Ming Dynasty Wanli reign mark hangs from the ceiling. One stone stele from the Republic of China era is embedded in each of the east and west gable walls.

Majin Town: A town under the jurisdiction of Kaihua County. Established as Majin Township in 1950, it was restructured as a commune in 1958, reinstated as a township in 1983, and upgraded to a town in 1985. Located in the northern part of the county on the eastern bank of the Majin Stream, it lies 17.6 kilometers from the county center. Covering an area of 94 square kilometers, it has a population of 22,000. National Highway 205 and the Quzhou–Chun’an Road pass through the town.
