The scenic area is situated in the western part of Quzhou’s ancient city and includes the Shuitingmen Historical and Cultural Block and the Ancient City Wall Ruins Park. The Shuitingmen Historical and Cultural Block is the part of Quzhou where traditional features are most densely preserved and historical heritage is richest. A wide range of architectural styles and street patterns remain intact, creating an interwoven “three streets and seven alleys” layout, with numerous historical remains located within the block.

The “Jiangnan Confucian City · Shuitingmen Scenic Area” is located in the western section of Quzhou’s ancient city, bordered by Xinhe Yan to the north, Nanhu West Road to the south, Xin’an Lake to the west, and Wusheng Street to the east. It encompasses the Shuitingmen Historical and Cultural Block and the Ancient City Wall Ruins Park, covering a total area of approximately 200,000 square meters.

The Shuitingmen Historical and Cultural Block is one of only two remaining historical and cultural blocks in downtown Quzhou, and also the one with the most concentrated traditional features and richest historical heritage. A variety of architectural styles and street layouts are well preserved, forming an interwoven “three streets and seven alleys” pattern. The block retains a large number of historical relics, including two national key cultural relics protection units (the Quzhou City Wall – Shuitingmen Gate and the Temple of Duke Zhou Xuanling), twelve provincial and municipal cultural relics protection units (such as Tianfei Palace, Shennong Hall, the Bacteriological Warfare Memorial Hall, the Yang Family Courtyard, and Dayuanhao Bank), as well as thirty-six other historic buildings.
