Furong Valley Scenic Area

Also known as Maowutang, Furong Valley is located in Shanchuan Township, Anji, adjacent to the world’s largest pumped-storage power station at Tianhuangping, China’s Great Bamboo Sea, and the Shuangxi Drift.

The scenic area is 19 kilometers from the county town and is a newly developed tourist destination that integrates Buddhist culture with natural ecological landscapes such as streams, waterfalls, rocks, vegetation, and wildlife. Nestled within a valley of overlapping mountain ridges, its main peak, Luojia Mountain, stands at an elevation of 1,169.6 meters. Surrounded by cascading waterfalls, emerald rain, crystal-clear pools, lush bamboo forests, and untouched by worldly dust, it resembles a paradise on earth.

The Stone Buddha Temple, originally built during the Tang Dynasty, has a history of over 1,100 years and remains a place of enduring incense offerings. Furong Valley leaves a lasting impression with its millennia-old Buddhist culture and the unrestrained rush of the Longtan Waterfall.

On the 19th day of the sixth lunar month, the birthday of Guanyin Bodhisattva, it is said that no matter whether there is a prolonged drought or clear skies, light drizzle will surely fall in Furong Valley around noon. Though believed to be a manifestation of the Bodhisattva, it is actually a meteorological phenomenon.

Furong Valley — the Valley of Spring — is adorned with vibrant pools, elegant ponds, and flower-strewn waterfalls. For a long time, this serene, mysterious, and enchanting valley remained hidden deep in the mountains, unseen by many. Now, it has finally revealed its beauty. This canyon, known as Furong Valley, extends four kilometers into the distance, flanked by towering peaks. Every few meters or tens of meters, you’ll find a colorful pool. These pools have a diameter of about ten meters and are roughly five to six meters deep. Their shimmering surfaces display a brilliant spectrum of colors, as splendid as blooming lotus flowers.

Large rocks lie within the pools, partially submerged, resembling strange birds and beasts. Some pools are also graced by small waterfalls hanging at their edges. The pools are encircled by massive gravel, and the stones are marked with glacial striations—like petals—that contrast beautifully with the clear pool water, creating a series of enchanting aquatic illusions.

The water sources of Furong Valley come from Baima Yuan at Furong Peak, Sanhua Wu Valley Stream, Danxia Stream, and Jiulong Stream, with the Feilong Waterfall located upstream.

The valley features an array of peculiar rocks, but the most remarkable are the Jadeite Pool clusters. There are over 100 large and small jadeite-colored pools in the valley, including 24 with a major axis of more than 15 meters, forming a fantastical aquatic dreamscape that embodies youthful charm. Visiting Furong Valley is said to rejuvenate one’s spirit, which is why it is affectionately nicknamed “Green Valley.” Its stream, Furong Stream, is playfully called “Spring River,” evoking imagery of “spring river flowers under the moon” and a tender, romantic ambiance.
