The Xuecheng Site in Gaochun

The Xuecheng Site in Gaochun is a Jiangsu Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The Xuecheng Site is located in Chunxi Town, near the southern shore of Shijiu Lake, covering an area of about 60,000 square meters. In September 1997, the Nanjing Museum and the county cultural relics protection office jointly conducted a rescue excavation of the site, uncovering an area of 100 square meters. The excavated tombs, residential remains, artifacts, and grains prove that as early as over 6,000 years ago, human ancestors lived and thrived here. The excavation filled a gap in the prehistoric archaeology of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River and was awarded the “1997 National Archaeological Important Discovery Nomination Honor Award.” In December 1997, the Gaochun County People’s Government designated the site as a county-level cultural relics protection unit.
