Gaochun Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Hall

The Gaochun Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Hall is located in the eastern section of Gaochun Old Street, covering an area of 1,800 square meters. The hall showcases Gaochun’s intangible cultural heritage to visitors through texts, images, and physical exhibits. It also regularly hosts participatory tourism activities such as dragon boat racing and crab-catching, among other folk events.

Each place shapes its people. For thousands of years, the hardworking and intelligent people of Gaochun have created a wealth of outstanding folk culture through their long-term production and daily life, forming a rich cultural heritage. By 2012, Gaochun District had 21 intangible cultural heritage items listed at the municipal level or above, including one national-level item and 13 provincial-level items. Gaochun folk songs, folk dances, and folk stories are rich and diverse, while its handicraft techniques are splendidly colorful. Yangqiang Mulian Opera is regarded as the ancestor of all operatic forms, and Dongba Big Horse Lantern has been included in the national intangible cultural heritage list. Experts believe that Gaochun is a “rich mine” of folk culture. The intangible cultural heritage of Gaochun is countless—it is the spiritual wealth created and accumulated by generations of Gaochun people and an important part of the nation’s cultural heritage, making it extremely precious.

Establishing the Gaochun Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Hall can fulfill the educational, recreational, and branding functions of intangible cultural heritage. It serves as a venue for traditional moral education, enriches people’s spiritual and cultural lives, further enhances Gaochun’s visibility, and promotes the comprehensive, coordinated, and sustainable development of the region’s economy and society.
