Gaochun Panchi Park

Gaochun Panchi Park is located at No. 60 Baota Road, Chunxi Town, Gaochun County. It stretches from Xiaogancun in the east to Xiaoheyan in the west, neighbors Chundong Village to the south, and borders Baota Road to the north, covering an area of 6.04 hectares. Of this, the water surface spans 4.5 hectares, accounting for 75% of the total area. Panchi Park was built over the former Pan Pool in front of the Confucian Temple, established during the Hongzhi era of the Ming Dynasty, and is located in the central area of the county. The park construction plan was formulated in 1977, and land acquisition and demolition began in 1981. In 1984, the design was guided by Ye Juhua and Professor Zhang Jiaji from Suzhou University of Urban Construction and Environmental Protection. Construction commenced on October 1, 1985, and the central scenic area was completed and officially opened to the public on October 1, 1990.

The park gate is designed in the form of a traditional Chinese memorial archway, 14 meters wide and 8 meters high, with three roofs and four pillars. It features a reinforced concrete structure with glazed tile roofing, presenting an imposing appearance, and was designed by the Nanjing Landscape Architecture Design Institute. The surrounding wall is built with hollow floral windows and covered with green tiles. Inside the gate, a platform holds a large ceramic Nine-Dragon Wall, surrounded by ornamental plants such as spring plum blossoms, peach blossoms, cherry blossoms, and white magnolia. Passing the Nine-Dragon Wall, the “Three Pools” (Panchi, Zhangjia Pond, and Fish Pond) and a stream come into view. Two earthen embankments run north-south through the “Three Pools,” with Panchi in the center. Among them, “Three Isles” are aligned in a row, while the western edge is protected by a flood-control stone revetment, with culverts at both the northern and southern ends. On the north bank of Panchi, there are four flower beds enclosed by privet hedges, planted with flowers and trees such as lilac, wintersweet, Chinese redbud, and peach blossoms.

Over the water surface of the Three Pools, there are three stone arch bridges, one hexagonal pavilion, one waterside gazebo, one flat-plank bridge, and a 42-meter-long corridor, with rockeries and fountains scattered in the water. The frameworks of the pavilion, corridor, and gazebo are all made of reinforced concrete, topped with wooden structures, gray tiles, and brick surfaces. The pavilion is 4 meters wide, while the gazebo is 9.1 meters wide and 7 meters deep. The eastern embankment of Panchi is lined with American pines, camphor trees, metasequoias, pond cypresses, and privet hedges, while the embankment of Zhangjia Pond is planted with peach blossoms and weeping willows. The western embankment features arborvitae, pittosporum, ligustrum, and cedar trees, creating a harmonious blend of greenery and water. In the southwestern corner of the park, there is a greenhouse flower house and Qingqu Garden. A concrete path encircles the pools, stretching 800 meters in total, with widths ranging from 1.2 to 1.6 meters.

In 1992, the park introduced amusement and service facilities, including pleasure boats, electric carts, and mini trains. Three storefront-themed scenic houses were built beside the main gate in traditional ethnic architectural styles, with a total floor area of 1,700 square meters, providing dining services for visitors.
