Qiqiao Ancient Village

Qiqiao Ancient Village is located in the northeastern part of Gaochun District, Nanjing, surrounded by water on all sides, standing apart in serene isolation. The area around the village is home to 30,000 descendants of Confucius. Within the ancient village lies a 500-meter-long old street with a history of nearly 2,000 years. Han Dynasty bridges, Song Dynasty wells, and Ming and Qing Dynasty architecture are all clearly visible, with the oldest houses dating back to the Yuan Dynasty. Everything on the old street is old: traditional bamboo weavers, old-style tofu workshops, elderly men in traditional Chinese jackets, and artisans practicing hand-carved woodwork — all showcasing an elegant and rustic beauty.

On Qiqiao Old Street, the buildings on both sides are old brick-and-wood storefronts. Due to years of wind and rain erosion, the grain of the wooden doors is clearly visible; the eaves protrude outward, and the lintels are carved with exquisite patterns. Every few buildings, there is a small alley leading to the water, with doors cut into the lanes, forming front doors, back doors, and side doors. Going deeper into the alleys, many old residences still retain symmetrically designed brick ventilation windows, and the original residents live here, blending seamlessly with the old streets, houses, and lanes to form a quaint and charming scene.
