Shendun Ancient Cultural Site

The Shendun Ancient Cultural Site is a cultural relic protection unit of Nanjing City.

The Shendun Ancient Cultural Site is located within Moling Middle School in Jiangning District and dates back to the Neolithic Age.

In the Huansu Town area of Hushu Subdistrict in Jiangning District, there are more than ten sites including Liangtai, Chuandun, Shendun, Laoshudun, and Qiangang. These are ancient cultural sites from the late Neolithic Age to the Shang and Zhou dynasties, forming the central area of the “Hushu Culture” sites. The distribution of the “Hushu Culture” sites is extremely extensive, covering approximately 400 square kilometers. The area is surrounded by continuous mountain ranges, with the Qinhuai Plain’s polder fields lying in between. A large number of artifacts have been unearthed from the “Hushu Culture” sites, including stone tools, pottery, and bronze ware. The discovery of these relics indicates that around 3,000 to 4,000 years ago, human activity already existed in the Huansu area. Based on the characteristics and evolution of the unearthed objects, archaeologists believe that the inhabitants of the “Hushu Culture” were tribes that used bronze tools, who established their settlements on the ruins of Neolithic villages.

Moling Subdistrict: Located in the central part of Jiangning District, Moling Subdistrict faces Hushu across the Qinhuai River to the east, borders Guli to the west, adjoins Lukou to the south, and interconnects with the Development Zone and Science Park, two major industrial zones, to the north.
