Qiangang Ancient Cultural Site

The Qiangang Ancient Cultural Site is a protected cultural heritage site of Nanjing City.

The Qiangang Ancient Cultural Site is located in Yaohua Community, Hushu Subdistrict, Jiangning District, dating back to the Neolithic Age.

Within Hushu Town in Hushu Subdistrict, Jiangning District, there are more than 10 sites including Liangtai, Chuandun, Shendun, Laoshudun, and Qiangang. These are ancient cultural sites from the late Neolithic Age to the Shang and Zhou dynasties, forming the core area of the “Hushu Culture” sites. The distribution of the “Hushu Culture” sites is extremely extensive, covering approximately 400 square kilometers. The surrounding areas are bordered by continuous mountain ranges, with the Qinhuai Plain’s polder fields lying in between. A large number of relics have been unearthed from the “Hushu Culture” sites, including stone tools, pottery, and bronze ware. The discovery of these relics indicates that around 3,000 to 4,000 years ago, human activity already existed in the Hushu area. Based on the characteristics and evolution of the unearthed artifacts, archaeologists believe that the creators of the “Hushu Culture” were a group of tribes who used bronze tools and established their settlements on the ruins of Neolithic villages.
