The Zanmiao Ancient Cultural Site is a cultural heritage protection unit of Nanjing City.

The Zanmiao Ancient Cultural Site is located in Zanmiao, Lukou Subdistrict, Jiangning District, dating back to the Neolithic Age.

Located within Hushu Town in Hushu Subdistrict, Jiangning District, there are over ten sites including Liangtai, Chuandun, Shendun, Laoshudun, and Qiangang. These are ancient cultural sites from the late Neolithic Age to the Shang and Zhou periods, forming the core area of the “Hushu Culture” sites. The distribution of the “Hushu Culture” sites is extremely extensive, covering approximately 400 square kilometers. The area is surrounded by continuous mountain ranges, with the Qinhuai Plain’s polder fields lying in between. Numerous artifacts have been unearthed from the “Hushu Culture” sites, including stone tools, pottery, and bronze ware. The discovery of these relics indicates that around 3,000 to 4,000 years ago, human activity already existed in the Hushu area. Based on the characteristics and evolution of the unearthed objects, archaeologists believe that the creators of the “Hushu Culture” were tribes who used bronze tools and established their settlements on the ruins of Neolithic villages.
