Qilin Subdistrict: During the Song Dynasty, Qilin Town was known as "Qilin Market" because of the nearby stone qilin (a mythical beast) from Emperor Wu of Liu Song’s Liuning Mausoleum and the local trade market. In the Ming Dynasty, it became one of the outer city gates of Nanjing, known as Qilin Gate, and was one of the 18 outer city gates of Ming Nanjing. Over time, it developed into a town, named after the gate. The area features hilly and mountainous terrain, with hills accounting for over 90% of the land. The southeastern part belongs to the Qinglong Mountain area, while the northwest has Ling Mountain, Tiger Mountain, and Gui Mountain. The central region includes low hills such as Tang Mountain and Zhima Mountain, and the western part has Tongjia Mountain and Xi Mountain. Valleys and ridges crisscross between the hills.
