China National Industry and Commerce Museum

The Wuxi China National Industry and Commerce Museum is located at No. 415 Zhenxin Road, on the traditional urban fringe of Wuxi, at the northern end of Zhenxin Road. To the south, it neighbors the former State Cotton Mill No. 4, while its eastern, western, and northern sides are all bordered by the canal, which also serves as its boundary. The renowned West Water Pier lies to the north of the museum, across the canal. The museum covers an area of 12,123 square meters, with over 7,300 square meters of exhibition space. In October 2002, it was designated as a Jiangsu Provincial-level Cultural Relics Protection Unit. Preparation for the museum began in 2005, and by February 15, 2007, the preparatory work was largely completed, allowing for a trial opening to the public.

The Wuxi China National Industry and Commerce Museum is based on the preserved historic buildings of the former Wuxi Maoinxin Flour Mill (originally named Baohing Flour Mill). The original factory structures—including the main workshop, barley warehouse, flour milling workshop, and office building—were all built in the 1940s and remain remarkably sturdy, with well-preserved exteriors. The Wuxi Maoinxin Flour Mill was established in the 26th year of the Guangxu reign during the Qing Dynasty (1900), founded by the renowned Chinese national industrialists the Rong brothers, Rong Zongjing and Rong Desheng. It was one of the earliest enterprises of China’s national industry, serving as a microcosm of the birthplace of national commerce and industry, as well as a typical example of modern Chinese industrial development. From its founding and prosperity, to its destruction and reconstruction, and then to its rebirth after the liberation, it has undergone a tortuous journey and witnessed nearly a century of transformation in China’s national industry and commerce.

The Wuxi China National Industry and Commerce Museum, established on this foundation, holds unique historical significance and value. It plays a positive role in researching the history of China's national industry and commerce development, preserving historical relics and materials from the modern era, educating the public in patriotism, enhancing Wuxi’s urban cultural quality, building a culturally rich Wuxi, and establishing the city as a renowned historical and cultural destination.
